Deleting your account and data

If you have played online

Playing online creates a Firebase profile using the Apple, Google, or Guest option you choose. We hold the Firebase user ID, display name, account details supplied by the selected provider, and the games you have played.

1. Delete the profile in the app

Open Settings in the app and tap Delete account in the Account section (also available on the Online screen). This permanently removes the Firebase Authentication identity and private rooms. In games shared with an opponent, the app replaces your ID and display name with “Deleted Player” so the opponent's game record remains. For Apple accounts, the app also revokes the Apple authorization. For Google accounts, it attempts to revoke Checkmate's Google access.

2. Ask for help if you cannot use the app

Email support@checkmate-app.com with the subject "Delete my Checkmate data" and include the room code if you still have it. We will never ask for a password.

Within 30 days, we will verify and complete any deletion that could not be performed in the app:

• Your authentication record, if it still exists
• Your user ID and display name from any game you took part in
• Games where you were the only player

Games you played against someone else are anonymised rather than removed outright, because they are also that person's record of a game they played. After anonymisation nothing in them identifies your former guest profile.

We will confirm when it is done.

Data on your device

Your settings and win/loss record never leave your phone. Settings → Reset statistics clears the record. Uninstalling removes all of it. On Android you can also use Settings → Apps → Checkmate → Storage → Clear storage.

Device backups

If your phone backs up app data to Google Drive or iCloud, a copy of your local settings may sit in that backup. Remove it through your Google account or iCloud settings — we have no access to those backups.
